Ada girls pound the paint against Lady Bears

Jan. 6—The Ada High girls basketball team kept pounding the paint and went on to pound John Marshal 55-34 on Day 1 of the East Central Oklahoma Classic Thursday night inside the Cougar Activity Center.

Ada improved to 4-5 on the season and was scheduled to meet Pocola — ranked No. 13 in Class 2A — in a Friday night semifinal contest. Class 5A John Marshall fell to 1-6. The Lady Indians roughed up Hugo 54-34 in another first-round game.

Ada led just 8-5 after a slow-paced first quarter but outscored John Marshall 21-14 in the second period to forge a 29-19 halftime lead. The Lady Cougars led 45-34 after three quarters before pitching a shutout in the final frame. Ada ended the game with a 10-0 volley.

AHS post players Gracey Dotson and Ava Campos worked over the Bears throughout the game. Campos finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. She sank 4-of-5 free throws. Dotson hit 3-of-4 field goals, finished 7-of-8 from the free-throw line and ended up with 13 points to go with eight boards.

Sadie Epps finished with eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Makaviya Nelson hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points.

Jayla Lawson scored 13 points to pace the Lady Bears. Cyriah Roberson followed with eight points.
