ACM women to host Region 20 tournament for first time

Mar. 2—CUMBERLAND — For the first time, Allegany College of Maryland will host the NJCAA Region 20 Division I women's basketball tournament at Bob Kirk Arena.

The tournament tips off on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the No. 3 seed Trojans (5-18) and the No. 2 seed Harford Fighting Owls (4-21).

The No. 1 seed Monroe College will face the winner on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the championship game.

The Region 20 champion will host the Mid-Atlantic District championship on March 16.

The Mustangs were granted an automatic bid to the national tournament last season as no district tournament was held.

Monroe has appeared in the last two national tournaments.

"We're thrilled to bring the region tournament here to Cumberland," ACM head coach LaRae Allen said in a press release. "It's a unique opportunity for our team to shine on home turf."

ACM and Harford split the regular season meetings with the away team winning each game.

The Fighting Owls won 70-63 in Cumberland on Nov. 11 while the Trojans won 63-56 on Nov. 29 at Harford.

Monroe (17-10) did not play Allegany in the regular season.
