ACC Now podcast: UNC, Clemson writers debate ahead of the ACC title game in Charlotte

Robert Willett/

For the first time in four years, the University of North Carolina and Clemson football teams will meet on the field, and it won’t be just another football game.

Despite each team losing in their respective ACC regular-season finales, the Tar Heels and Tigers punched their tickets to the ACC Championship game in Charlotte weeks ago. Now, the teams will meet to determine this year’s conference champion, a game that will also help decide to which bowl game each school will travel later in December.

A UNC win would give the school its first conference football title in 42 years, and is a rematch of the 2015 ACC title game — also the last time UNC played in one — which Clemson won, 45-37.

Clemson, meanwhile, is hoping to return to its winning ways. The Tigers won the ACC title each year from 2015-2020. Pittsburgh earned the crown last year, snapping Clemson’s reign.

In this week’s ACC Now Podcast episode, UNC beat writer C.L. Brown of The News & Observer and Clemson beat writer Chapel Fowler of The State break down the big game.
