Abilene Baseball and Softball to host Jamboree's

Mar. 15—Much like the popularity of Kansas high school having expanded scrimmages for football in the Fall, Kansas State High School Activities Association has approved similar formats for baseball and softball this Spring.

Abilene High School will host St. Mary's and Smoky Valley in both baseball and softball jamboree's this coming week. Baseball will kick things off on Monday, March 18 while softball will be on Tuesday, March 19.

Just like the football jamboree, the Spring jamboree's will be a controlled scrimmage type atmosphere and learning experience for the student athletes. Regulations and restrictions have been established on the number of innings played, number of pitches thrown and more. Each player is limited to 12 innings of play and pitchers are capped at 45 pitches. With three schools at the Jamboree, Abilene baseball will play two six inning games beginning with St. Mary's at 3:00 p.m. Softball will have the same 12 innings per player restriction.

This is a time for coaches to see where their team might be in the very early part of the season before the actual competition begins later in the month of March.
