Abbigail Conaway's walk-off home run gives Maidens 3-1 win over Tatum

Feb. 16—CARTHAGE — Jacksonville went 2-0 on the second day of the Carthage Tournament Friday, posting a dramatic, 3-1, decision over Tatum in the nighcap and blanking Pleasant Grove, 9-0, in a late afternoon skirmish.

The Maidens improved to 4-1 with the wins.

With the game against Tatum tied, 1-1, senior Abbigail Conaway belted a two-run homer over the left field fence in the bottom of the final inning to give Jacksonville the win.

Chesni Speaker stroked a double for the Maidens, with Jasmine Gallegos and Hannah Gonzales adding a base knock each.

Ana Miles drove in Jacksonville's remaining run.

Gonzales earned the win in the circle by going the distance (5 innings) and allowing one run (earned) on one hit. She fanned five and walked four.

In the victory over Pleasant Grove, Gonzales had two hits in three official trips to the dish, which was highlighted by a triple. She drove in three runs.

Gallegos pounded a double and drove in a run and Kendi Canady smacked a base hit and collected an RBI.

Lacey Whetsell added an RBI for the Maidens, who scored six runs in the bottom of the second frame.

The Maidens also benefited from five base on balls and two hit batsmen.

Gallegos notched the pitching win by tossing 2.2 innings and not giving up a run.

She allowed three hits, struck out four and walked a pair of Lady Hawks.

Jacksonville will play Redwater at noon Saturday, the final day of the tournament.
