ABAC wins late to salvage split with Gordon State

Mar. 18—TIFTON — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's softball squad split Saturday GCAA contests against Gordon State. The Lady Highlanders won the first game, 9-3, with the Fillies earning the second game, 6-5.

ABAC's victory was a walk-off.

Gordon scored two runs in the top of the 7th to pull to a 5-5 tie.

Elli Bryan started the bottom half with a single, moving up when Dylana Barton's bunt turned into a hit as well. Emily Turley moved both up a base on a sacrifice, setting up Lexi Metts to single in Bryan for the game-winning run.

The Fillies scored three in the 1st inning. Gordon tied in the 3rd, then ABAC scored single runs in the 3rd and 5th.

Metts led off with a homer. After Carter Gore walked, Alli Eidson joined the party with a two-run homer of her own.

Eidson drove in Metts in the 3rd. Turley made it 5-3 on a passed ball. She had led off the 5th with a hit.

Metts had three hits and two RBIs.

Anna Hutchiinson pitched one out of the 7th to score the win. Emilee Zetmeir worked most of the game in the circle.

Both teams scored in the first frame of the opener, but ABAC could only come back with one after Gordon posted a three-spot in the 4th inning. Four runs in the 6th put their lead out of reach.

Edison doubled in Laney McGee in the 1st. Peighton Capwell, running for Ava Roland, crossed on an error in the 4th. ABAC's other run came in the 5th, when Gore tripled in McGee.

McGee had three hits on the game. Hutchinson and Lindsey Orton split pitching duties.

Now 15-9 for the year (2-2 in the GCAA), ABAC hosts Georgia Highlands in a doubleheader Friday, the first game beginning at 3 p.m.
