A potential agreement between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers has helped re-open talks between the team and its All-Pro wide receiver.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Davante Adams is now willing to have meaningful contract negotiations with the Packers again.

Adams, who turns 29 in December, is entering the final year of his contract in 2021.

The new agreement with Rodgers would open up cap room, potentially providing enough financial wiggle room for general manager Brian Gutekunst to craft a suitable new deal for one of the NFL’s elite pass-catchers.

Talks between Adams and the Packers reportedly broke down last week. But getting the NFL’s MVP back in the fold has likely calmed some of Adams’ fears about his immediate future with the team, and the Packers getting back more cap room via an alteration to Rodgers’ deal might free enough money to close the gap in value in negotiations.

Adams, a first-team All-Pro in 2020 after leading the NFL in touchdown catches, likely wants a deal at or approaching the top of the market at receiver. DeAndre Hopkins currently leads all NFL receivers after signing an extension with the Arizona Cardinals worth $27.25 million per year.
