Is 9 wins a successful season for the Steelers without the playoffs?

The Pittsburgh Steelers Week 18 showdown with the Cleveland Browns is important on a couple of fronts. The Steelers must win if they have a hope of making the playoffs. Pittsburgh also needs the New York Jets to beat the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills to beat the New England Patriots.

However, there is more at stake. A win against Cleveland without one of those other two games still gives the Steelers nine wins. The Steelers would finish the season at 9-8 and assure head coach Mike Tomlin’s streak of non-losing seasons stays intact.

But is that a successful year? Going into the season, if you would have told me this team would make the playoffs, I’d have told you there was no shot. If you would have told me the team would finish right around .500 I could have seen it. Now, with one game to play, both have a chance of happening.
