The Rock and 56 More Famous People Who Caught Coronavirus

“Wear your mask.” That’s the message Dwayne Johnson had for his Instagram followers when he shared on Sept. 2 that he, his wife and his two young daughters all tested positive for COVID-19.

“I wish it was only me who tested positive, but it wasn’t, it was my entire family,” Johnson said.

The coronavirus has affected a number of rich and famous individuals, including pro athletes, A-list actors, legendary musicians, heads of state and business people. Here’s a closer look at 56 other people who have been affected by the coronavirus.

Last updated: Sept. 3, 2020

Note: This is not an exhaustive list and only includes individuals whose net worth information was readily available.

Sports Figures

The impact of the coronavirus on the sports world has been devastating. The NBA suspended its season on March 11 after Utah Jazz star Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus; the following day, Major League Soccer and the NHL paused their seasons too. The NCAA college basketball tournaments were canceled, and Major League Baseball announced a delay to its season.

Finally, baseball players are on the field, NFL players have reported to training camp, and the NBA and NHL have resumed action, albeit in a “bubble.” Frequent COVID-19 testing now is the norm for athletes.

Despite precautions, numerous pro athletes have contracted the coronavirus. For example, from June 27 through Aug. 6, MLB reported 141 positive tests representing 111 players and 30 staff members.

Here are some of the athletes and other sports figures who have tested positive.
