5 Cowboys to watch tonight against the Colts

The Dallas Cowboys play their third preseason game this evening against the Indianapolis Colts. Last week, we saw some good things from some several young Cowboys players. Here are five players we have circled for tonight’s exhibition.

5. Marquez White – CB

Marquez White, without Jourdan Lewis or Chidobe Awuzie expected to play, has a chance to earn a spot in this new look secondary. He’s fared pretty well in camp and the preseason thus far, and will presumably get a good amount of playing time tonight. Let’s hope he makes the most of it out there.

4. Alfred Morris – RB

Alfred Morris will definitely get more playing time this season with Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension. It looks like Dallas is going with Darren McFadden to start with the first-string offense in Elliott’s absence, but Morris can certainly hold his own. He should get some snaps tonight with the first and second-team offensive line units.

3. Jonathan Cooper – LG

Jonathan Cooper has never played up to his draft status, but has another chance this week to put things together playing with a veteran Cowboys offensive line. Cooper hasn’t quite separated himself from the pack yet, so keep your eyes on this guard competition in general. Chaz Green could finally be healthy, plus watch out for Byron Bell.

2. Cooper Rush – QB

Since Kellen Moore hasn’t lit things up the way fans are accustomed to in the preseason, Cooper Rush will look to build on a great showing last week. Rush was 9-for-11, for 104 yards, 1 touchdown and a 136.4 quarterback rating. The battle is far from over, but Rush will need to outplay Moore again to have a legit shot at the backup spot.

1. Jaylon Smith – LB

It just may finally happen! After waiting for a year and some change, Jaylon Smith, the ultra-talented and productive linebacker out of Notre Dame, is expected to make his Cowboys debut. Once considered a risky pick in the second round by Jerry Jones in 2016, Smith looks to have made a full recovery. The Cowboys’ defense needs him this season in the worst way. Expect a cautious debut, as he gets his NFL feet wet.
