49ers roster moves: Cornerback and running back waived ahead of Bye

The San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday announced a pair of moves that opened up two spots on the active roster. Cornerback Davontae Harris and running back Jaques Patrick were both placed on waivers with the Bye week coming up.

Harris was just activated off injured reserve, so there’s a chance the team tries to re-sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers. He was with the 49ers for a short time in the preseason and made the active roster before immediately being placed on IR with a hamstring issue.

Patrick joined the 49ers before Week 3 against the Packers when they signed him off the Bengals practice squad. His two games with San Francisco yielded six offensive snaps and 18 special teams snaps. Patrick notched two carries for 12 yards in Week 4 vs. Seattle.

The 49ers anticipate getting healthier after the Bye and they may be looking to clear roster spots for when they activate players off Injured Reserve. They could also be angling to sign veterans at other positions where depth is problem.
