49ers linebacker Foster pleads no contest to weapons charge

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor weapons charge on Wednesday and was sentenced to two years probation. Foster also will have to perform 232 hours of community service and pay $235 in fines. He isn't allowed to possess guns during his probation. Foster also faces the possibility of a multi-game suspension, according to ESPN. The 24-year-old recently had two domestic violence charges against him dismissed. The weapons charge was associated to the Feb. 11 incident, which occurred at his home in Los Gatos, Calif. As for a suspension, NFL guidelines allow for discipline even when charges are dropped. In the aftermath of the Ray Rice and Greg Hardy situations of 2014, the NFL instituted a domestic violence policy that calls for a six-game suspension for first-time offenders. "We continue to monitor all developments in the matter which remains under review," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Foster also failed a drug test at the 2017 NFL combine and could face punishment for being arrested on a misdemeanor marijuana charge in Alabama in January that was later dropped. The domestic violence charges were dismissed last month when Foster's ex-girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, testified at the Santa Clara Hall of Justice that she initially lied to police about Foster hitting her on Feb. 11 and did so in an attempt to ruin Foster's career and "end him." Ennis also testified that she falsely accused a former boyfriend of domestic violence in 2011 after he attempted to break up with her. --Field Level Media
