49ers safety Ward sends message to haters on his IG story originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Jimmie Ward had some time on Wednesday.
The 49ers safety responded to an Instagram post that showed he had the lowest missed tackle percentage in the NFL this season, by writing on his own Instagram story "Name a safety who can play in my spot and can do what I can do for only 9.5m a year (if he can't cover receivers don't name him)."

Without naming names, this felt like a shot at Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams. While Adams recorded 83 tackles -- 11 for loss -- 9.5 sacks and 14 QB hits in 12 games, he looked lost in coverage.
Ward played 14 games this season and finished with 73 tackles, four passes defensed (one more than Adams) and forced two fumbles. Both safeties failed to record an interception.
The advanced analytics, however, show Ward was the better player in 2020. He had a 73.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, while Adams was much lower at 64.2. Ward allowed 33 receptions this season, per PFF, and Adams allowed 37.
Ward re-signed with the 49ers in March 2020 on a three-year, $28.5 million contract. The former first-round draft pick always will have his doubters, especially with his injury history, but he did put together a solid season when healthy last season.
