49ers injury report: Brandon Aiyuk returns to practice

The 49ers on Thursday got a little bit of good news when they took the field for practice. Rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who hasn’t practiced since injuring his hamstring late in training camp, was back in action on a limited basis.

While Aiyuk is still an unknown commodity and a rookie who has to find his NFL legs, having an additional explosive player available. Sunday would be good for the 49ers’ offense. The No. 25 overall pick in this year’s draft was initially labeled “week-to-week” by head coach Kyle Shanahan after the receiver suffered a minor hamstring strain in an August 23 practice.

The team has sidelined him since then, and a limited Thursday session doesn’t necessarily guarantee he will play or play with a full workload Sunday in the season opener.

There were no other changes from Wednesday’s injury report though. A final injury report Friday will put official statuses on each player before Sunday’s 1:25pm kickoff.

Here’s Thursday’s report:

Did not participate

WR Deebo Samuel (foot)
CB Jason Verrett (hamstring)

Limited participation

C Ben Garland (ankle)
WR Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring)
