4 things the Steelers need to improve over the bye week

Next week the Pittsburgh Steelers will get back to the business of football and start preparing for a road showdown with the Cleveland Browns. Here are four things we want to see improvement in coming out of the bye week.

Tackling

If you are an NFL player and you can’t tackle consistently, I’m not sure if it is something that can be coached into them. But I take the stance most every guy on the Steelers defense has the skills to tackle but there are just too many lapses in concentration and bad angles when it comes to stopping opposing offenses.

Separation by pass catchers

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson is the only receiver on the roster who can consistently create separation in his routes. Players like wide receiver Chase Claypool and tight end Pat Freiermuth have the potential to be elite players if they could only get open to allow them to make plays after the catch.

More consistent effort

It is no secret that the Steelers start slow, hit their stride and then fade late in games. This has been a problem for several seasons. Some of this has to do with poor game prep, some have to do with a lack of depth which pushes conditioning.

How about a little passion?

Sometimes it is hard to tell in postgame interviews of Steelers players and coaches if the team won or lost. I get the business-like approach Pittsburgh takes but when the team is struggling it can come across like the team doesn’t really care.
