4-star recruit Bronny James announces commitment decision on Instagram
Bronny James, the eldest son of LeBron James, announced Saturday on Instagram that he has committed to play college basketball next season at the University of Southern California.
James, who is listed at 6 feet, 3 inches, was the No. 19 recruit in the class of 2023 in ESPN’s rankings. He was the last American recruit this year to sign with a school and reportedly chose USC over programs like Ohio State and Oregon among others.
The 18-year-old seemingly had several options to consider after graduating from Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles. His parents previously said that he was leaning toward going the college route and all signs pointed toward him staying home at USC.
James recently competed in the McDonald’s All-American Game and with USA Basketball at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon. He said at the time that he’d make a decision on his recruitment when the time was right, which ultimately came on Saturday.
Just hours after the announcement, James was seen arriving at Crypto.com Arena as the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals. He has often attended games with his family during LeBron’s tenure in L.A.
James joins a team that also added No. 1 overall recruit Isaiah Collier and No. 4 overall center Arrinten Page. The Trojans have made the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three years and figure to be a favorite again next year from the Pac-12.
