4-year-old Mount Vernon girl attacked by dog

A 4-year-old Mount Vernon girl is in stable condition after being attacked by a neighbor’s dog while visiting her grandfather Monday, the city of Mount Vernon announced.

According to a news release, medical response units were called to the girl’s grandfather’s home on the 100 block of North 30th Street around 3:20 p.m.

When they arrived, they discovered the girl with bites to her face and left shoulder.

The girl’s grandfather also suffered a bite to his hand when he intervened.

According to the news release, the girl was in her grandfather’s garage when the neighbor’s dog entered.

The girl was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital in stable condition.

Mount Vernon Police Department Animal Control is investigating the incident.

The dog is a mix of breeds that appears to include husky, according to the news release.

Animal Control is following standard procedure for skin-breaking dog bites by quarantining the dog for 10 days, as the investigation is completed.
