4 dead in Tacoma, Washington, shooting; suspect remains at large, authorities say

At least four people are dead after a shooting in Tacoma, Washington, authorities said late Thursday.

The Tacoma Police Department announced on Twitter at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday that two females and one male had died at the scene, and that a male was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The male later died from his injuries, police said.

The suspect remains at large, according to police. Additional details were not immediately available.

The shooting happened in the Salishan neighborhood in the city of about 200,000. The neighborhood was first built as a public housing project and suffered from high crime rates in the 1990s, according to the Tacoma Housing Authority.

The authority demolished and rebuilt the neighborhood in 2004. It's now home to diverse and mixed-income communities.

Police, which called it an active scene, urged people to stay away from the area.
