Feb. 27—(35) Berkshire vs (8) Warren Howland

When: 6 p.m., Feb. 28

Where: Elyria, 601 Middle Ave.

Records: Berkshire 12-12, Howland 18-6

Berkshire's path: Defeated Conneaut, 62-22, def. Geneva, 59-54

Howland's path: Defeated Ravenna, 78-9, def. Tallmadge, 45-32

On deck: Winner advances to the district championship game to play (29) Woodridge and (2) Copley at 7 p.m. March 2.

For the record: The Badgers have been planting seeds of late, taking down 28th-seeded Conneaut in a sectional semifinal and then ousting sixth-seeded Geneva in a sectional final behind a 31-point game from freshman Ivy Martin. Forward Hayley Stoddard is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, but the Badgers play unselfish basketball and thrive on defensive pressure to unnerve opponents. Still, Howland is likely the best team Berkshire has seen this season. The 18-6 Tigers have recent losses to very strong teams like West Branch and Austintown-Fitch. Alyssa Massucci leads the team with her 19.1 scoring average.

Kampf's pick: Howland
