Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock has told The 32 he has been pleasantly surprised by VAR at the World Cup – and is thankful it wasn’t around when he was playing!

Ruddock, a guest on the sofa for Saturday’s fantastic Yahoo Sport World Cup show, has been won over.

The former Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham defender has notice the anxiety about the new refereeing system has eased since the end of the group stages in Russia.

The 50-year-old says a fear factor now exists around the use of video replays and players are cleaning up their act.

“Nobody is talking about it now. I think it has worked in the respect that they have every chance of giving a penalty away.

“Players know they can’t get away with things now and I think that’s a real positive.

“I wouldn’t have liked to play with it – imagine what they would have done to me!”
