3 Yankees prospects make The Athletic's Top 100 list for 2024

This offseason, outlets have shined a light on the Yankees' farm system, with a number of their young players included in lists of the top prospects in MLB for the 2024 season.

This time, Keith Law of The Athletic chimes in with his Top 100 prospects, and three Yankees are listed -- including one name that may come as a surprise.

Here’s where The Athletic ranks the Yankees’ top prospects:

OF Jasson Dominguez: No. 21
OF Everson Pereira: No 63
INF Roderick Arias: No. 98

Dominguez comes as no surprise as he’s the top Yankees prospect on many of these lists, and for good reason. The dynamic outfielder took the Bronx by storm once he was called up last September.

Law writes how much better Dominguez’s pitch recognition has become and he expects 20/20 upside once he returns from Tommy John surgery.

Pereira is the surprise inclusion on Law’s list. The 23-year-old outfielder got his first taste of the majors last August ahead of Dominguez and Austin Wells. During that time, Pereira struggled at the plate, slashing .151/.233/.427 while picking up just four extra-base hits and striking out 40 times in 93 at-bats.

Law believes the Venezuelan-born player was simply not ready for the majors. However, Pereira’s long-term outlook gives him the potential to mash 30 homers “once his approach catches up with his tools,” according to Law.

And finally, we have Arias. The 19-year-old infielder was given the biggest signing bonus by the Yankees since Dominguez, so the organization believes in the kid. Law points to Arias’ bat speed and pitch recognition -- Arias had a 22 percent strikeout rate in the Florida Complex League in 2023, better than the league average of 27 percent -- as reasons for his inclusion on this list. Law also believes Arias has the biggest upside between offense and defense in the Yankees’ system since Dominguez.

Notably, Law didn’t include any of the Yankees’ top pitching prospects like Clayton Beeter, Chase Hampton or Will Warren. Outfielder Spencer Jones was also not included, but was among the top Yankees prospects on other lists.
