21 Twists That Were Never Properly Explained On TV Shows And Movies

Everyone loves a good plot twist — one that totally blows your mind, that you never could've seen coming.

Adult Swim

But even when it's done well, sometimes plot twists...well...they make no sense.

Daniel Craig saying "It makes no damn sense; compels me, though"
Lionsgate

And sometimes they're straight-up just bad. Here are 21 plot twists that raised wayyyy too many questions:

1.In the Morbius post-credits scene, when Vulture appeared:

Newscaster says "A man identifying himself as Adrian Toomes simply appeared in an otherwise empty cell" and he says "I'm not sure how I got here; it has to do with Spider-Man, I think"

2.In The Umbrella Academy, when Reginald was revealed to be an alien wearing a human mask:

He removes the mask

This was never sufficiently explained, and there's been a whole new season since then! So Reginald is from space??? How does this even factor into the storyline?

Netflix

3.In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, when Percival Graves was revealed to be Grindelwald:

He's bending over and his face changes

4.And also when Credence was revealed to be a Dumbledore:

"The name I now restore to you: Aurelius; Aurelius Dumbledore"

5.In Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker, when it was revealed that Palpatine had survived...with this shoddy explanation:

"Somehow, Palpatine returned"

The above line is really all you need to know here. There is absolutely zero explanation given for how Palpatine survived — they don't even TRY. It's so dumb and unrealistic, even for a movie in which humans can breathe in space.

Lucasfilm / Disney

6.And when it was revealed that Rey was a Palpatine:

Kylo tells Rey she's a Palpatine

7.In Friends, when Rachel got off the plane:

Rachel tells Ross she got off the plane

8.On Lost, when the smoke monster's origins were revealed:

Jacob and the Man in Black at a pond and the smoke monster emerges from a cave

9.Also on Lost, when it was revealed that Libby had been in the psych ward with Hurley:

Libby in the psych ward

THIS WAS NEVER EXPLAINED, AND I'M STILL MAD ABOUT IT. What did it mean??? What were they trying to tell us?? SO many things were never explained on Lost, but this one really irked me because it genuinely felt as if they forgot about it, and it was such a huge cliffhanger at the time.

ABC

10.On Pretty Little Liars, when A/Charles was revealed to be Cece:

Cece tells Ali to not be so dramatic, and Aria, Spencer, Mona, Emily, and Hanna look on in shock

11.On Skins, when Effy's therapist was revealed to be evil, and then he KILLED FREDDIE:

The psychiatrist tells Freddie he can't let him out, and Freddie shouts to get off him as we see blood on the window

12.On How I Met Your Mother, when it was revealed that Robin and Barney got divorced and then Ted went after Robin:

Ted's kids tell him he's into Robin and he goes to her house with a trumpet

This was so random, and all wrong for the characters. Barney and Robin were clearly endgame, and then all of a sudden a) they're divorced, b) Ted loved Robin all along, and c) Robin is psyched about all of this??? So random and bad.

CBS

13.On The 100, when Clarke killed Bellamy:

Clarke says, "Don't make me do this," and Bellamy replies that she won't shoot him, but she does and he dies

14.On The Vampire Diaries, when Stefan was revealed to also be a doppelgänger:

Stefan asks if he's look at Silas's real face and if he's a Petrova doppelgänger — Silas says "not exactly," morphs so he has Stefan's face, and says "hello my shadow self"

15.On Game of Thrones, when Arya killed the Night King:

Arya drops her knife, catches it with her other hand, and stabs the Night King

16.On Gossip Girl, when Dan was revealed to be Gossip Girl:

Dan narrates how he became gossip girl, saying he thought he could write himself into the world of the Upper East Side and that Serena was is muse

There are multiple instances when Dan simply couldn't have been Gossip Girl, and that's not even counting all of the Gossip Girl blasts he seems shocked by when he's alone. They also then frame Gossip Girl as a "love letter" to Serena, which is just absolutely ridiculous, considering how much he tortured her.

The CW

17.In Black Widow, when the Taskmaster ended up being Dreykov's daughter:

Taskmaster takes off her helmet to reveal a burned face as natasha looks on in shock — dreykov says that when natasha's bomb exploded, he had to put a chip in the back of antonia's head

18.On Revenge, when David Clarke was revealed to be alive:

David pulls up to Conrad, who sees him and says "David?" David takes out a knife and stabs him and he falls, dead

19.On One Tree Hill, when Logan was revealed to be Clay's son:

Clay looking at Logan, then saying, "You're telling me that he's my son?"

20.In Frozen 2, when Elsa's mom appeared and revealed that Elsa was the fifth spirit:

Elsa hears her mother sing and tell her that "you are the one you've been waiting for"

I still don't totally understand this??? Was Elsa's mom the spirit before her? Is she actually there in this scene, or is this just in Elsa's mind? The plot was wayyy too convoluted for this reveal to work.

Disney

21.And finally, I gotta end with the absolute worst one, that *technically* is in a play but could become a movie...when Delphi Diggory was revealed to be Voldemort's daughter in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child:
