2024 Skyway 10K registration opens next week
If you’ve dreamed of running under the glowing golden arches of the Sunshine Skyway bridge, mark your calendar, registration for the 2024 Skyway 10K opens Oct. 30.
In previous years, spots for the 6.2-mile race, which crosses three counties and is suspended 200 feet over Tampa Bay, have been elusive. Runners had to register for a lottery and be lucky enough to be selected for a spot. This year, registration is first come, first served.
“We are no longer doing a lottery as we’ve done in the past. We will be doing a general registration that is first come, first serve, and will remain open until we sell out,” said Joyce Bedard, Skyway 10K Race Coordinator.
So, set your alarm. Starting at 8 a.m. Oct. 30, people can register by going to skyway10k.com. Registration costs have not been announced yet. Proceeds benefit the Armed Forces Families Foundation.
The race will be held March 3. Runners start on the south end of Sunshine Skyway and run north. The race ends on the bridge but there’s a second finish line at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. The northbound span of the bridge will close to traffic at 3:30 a.m. Sunday and reopen at 11 a.m. Approximately 8,000 runners participate annually.
