2023 Ford Transit Trail walkaround

Ford and its Ford Pro commercial vehicle business have unveiled the 2023 Transit Trail, a lifted, off-roadable version of its Transit van. In addition to commercial uses, this is a platform with the #Vanlife crowd — both DIY and dealer-bought — squarely in its sights. Key features include a 3.5-inch lift with 30.5-inch all-terrain tires, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and all-wheel drive, along with a number of standard and optional factory-installed features to make the Transit Trail ideal for an RV conversion. The one you see here is an upfit Ford commissioned from VanDOit Adventure Vans, showing just one example of what’s possible with the Transit Trail.

JOHN SNYDER: Hello there. This is John Snyder with Autoblog, and in front of me is the 2023 Ford Transit Trail. This is the adventure-ready version of the Ford Transit van. It's got a 3 and 1/2 inch lift, all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires. And while it will have commercial purposes, it's going to be likely very popular with the RV crowd.

And to sort of show that off once I get around, I'll show you. This one has been outfitted by a company called VanDOit. And just to show sort of a basic sort of premium fitting that you could do. There's, you know, electronics and whatnot down there. A little bed. Little camp kitchen.

You can get fixed seats or swivel seats. It makes it easy. You can get a fan installed from the factory. So if you're DIYer and you want to kit it out yourself, you don't have to cut into the car. I'll open up the back.

Book rack, some storage. It's kind of a neat idea. Sort of minimalist but upscale upfit that you could do with the Ford Transit Trail.

And there it is. The order books are opening right now, and they're limited for this year. They wouldn't give us numbers, but I imagine that these will be quite popular. Thanks for watching.
