2022 NFL draft: Eagles, Jets on track for multiple top-10 picks

The 2021 NFL season might prove to be a rough one for fans of the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets, but the following offseason should bring them some much needed talent in the form of premium picks in the 2022 NFL draft.

Thanks to previous trades, both teams are on pace to land multiple top-10 selections in next year’s draft, if the rest of the season pans out the way it has over the first six weeks.

The Eagles are on track for a whopping three picks among the top nine right now, while the Jets are staring down the possibility of two selections in the top 10.

Philly’s predraft trade with the Miami Dolphins last year dropped them from the No. 6 overall pick to No. 12, netting them Miami’s first-rounder this year. Thanks to the Dolphins’ ugly start this season, that pick would be the No. 2 selection in 2022, if the draft took place right now. The No. 9 overall pick would also belong to the Eagles, thanks to the trade they made with the Indianapolis Colts for quarterback Carson Wentz. Their own pick would be No. 8 overall.

For the Jets, they’re currently looking at the No. 6 overall pick on their own, but they’re only in line to get the No. 10 overall selection. That extra one comes from the Jamal Adams trade that netted them an additional first-rounder in the 2020 draft, as well.

So, take heart, Eagles and Jets fans. It might not be much fun the rest of the way this season, but next year’s draft will give you plenty of chances to reload with blue-chip prospects.
