2022 NFL draft: Colts currently projected to pick 13th

We’re almost to the midway point of the 2021 season, and the Indianapolis Colts (3-4) are very much in the mix for now as a crucial matchup with the Tennessee Titans (5-2) awaits in Week 8.

As the season progresses, we’ll be keeping an eye on the draft selection for the Colts in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. Entering Week 8, the Colts are currently projected to hold the No. 13 pick.

Of course, this all comes with a caveat. The conditions of the trade for quarterback Carson Wentz state that if he plays 75% of the team’s offensive snaps or plays 70% of the snaps and the Colts make the playoffs, then the second-round pick given to the Eagles turns into a first-rounder.

Given the fact that Wentz has played 98.9% of the team’s offensive snaps, it’s likely that the first-round pick will go to Philly.

As it stands, the Colts are a fringe wild-card team. They’ve played better over the last few weeks having won three of their last four games. Wentz has been directly involved in that effort and has truly taken his game up a notch.

Regardless, the entire discourse of Wentz’s season will be surrounding by justifying the eventual pick the Colts give up in the trade. With how things are going, the Colts are currently looking at giving up a pick in the top-half of the first round in 2022.
