2021 NFL offseason: Pats had wide receiver Jordan Suell in for tryout originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Wide receiver is one area where the New England Patriots need to make significant improvements before the 2021 NFL season, and they already had one player in for a tryout this week.
The Patriots worked out wideout Jordan Suell, according to the league wire (H/T Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle).
Suell, who's listed at 6-foot-6 and 205 pounds, played four seasons for Southern Oregon of the NAIA from 2016 through 2019. He tallied 42 receptions for 834 yards and 12 touchdowns over 11 games during his senior season in 2019.
Suell went undrafted in 2019 and played in the Spring League in 2020.
The Patriots definitely need more youth and size at wide receiver going forward. This position group was among the weakest on New England's roster this past season.
Veteran wideout Julian Edelman was slowed by injury and missed the last 10 games of the season. N'Keal Harry didn't take a leap in his sophomore season, and now it's looking more and more likely that the 2019 first-round pick will end up being a bust. Jakobi Meyers showed real potential at times, but he wasn't consistent enough.
The Patriots have a few avenues to acquire wide receiver help before next season. They absolutely should select one with their 10 picks (including projected compensatory selections) in the 2021 NFL Draft, and signing a veteran in free agency also is a possibility given New England's abundance of salary space this offseason.
