Poll results show what Pats fans think of Mac Jones originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The most pressing question surrounding the New England Patriots heading into the 2021 NFL Draft was whether they would address the quarterback position in Round 1.

They did just that, drafting Alabama QB Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick.

Curran: Mac Jones is exactly what the Patriots needed

Patriots fans made it clear they wanted a QB in the first round, though Justin Fields was the signal-caller they desired. The Ohio State product landed with the Chicago Bears instead at No. 11 overall.

Was Jones a nice consolation prize? According to NBC Sports Boston's poll results, the answer to that question is an emphatic "yes."

Out of 925 respondents, a whopping 61.3 percent of Pats fans loved the Jones selection and believe he's New England's quarterback of the future. Others (29.8 percent) were indifferent about the player, but glad Bill Belichick went with a QB.

Then there were the naysayers. At 4.6 percent were those who hated the pick and wanted anyone but Jones at No. 15. At 4.2 percent were the fans who hoped Belichick would bring Jimmy Garoppolo back home.

Not everyone was satisfied, but that's a solid approval rating for the newest member of the Patriots.

Now, the question is what will Belichick's approach be in Rounds 2 and 3? Will he give Jones another weapon or two? Will he focus on the defense?

We'll find out soon after Day 2 of the draft begins Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
