2021 NFL draft: Jets attend Justin Fields’ second pro day

The Jets look locked in on Zach Wilson with their second overall pick, but that won’t stop them from checking out Justin Fields for a second time.

New York will attend Fields’ second pro day Wednesday, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. Joe Douglas, assistant general manager Rex Hogan and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur watched Fields throw and run at his first pro day on March 30, where he wowed teams with his 4.44 40-yard dash time and sensational passes.

It’s unclear who will represent the Jets this time around, but they won’t be alone. The 49ers brass of GM John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan will be there after missing Fields’ first pro day and after moving up to the third overall pick. Representatives from the Broncos, Patriots, Panthers and Falcons will also watch.

This doesn’t necessarily mean the Jets are more or less enamored by Fields or Wilson. All it means is that the team won’t miss an opportunity to see a top quarterback prospect live after a season in which they weren’t able to scout in person because of the COVID-19 pandemic. For what it’s worth, either Fields or Wilson would be a phenomenal pick for the Jets at No. 2

It’s also worth noting that Buckeyes defensive back Shaun Wade will also work out during the pro day. He could be a Day 2 or 3 possibility for a Jets team in desperate need of secondary help.
