2021 NBA Playoffs: Blazers vs. Nuggets Game 6 Implications, Odds originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest
With the Blazers down 3-2 to the Nuggets, the odds seem to be stacked against them.
To survive and advance to the second-round, the team will need to win Game 6 in Portland followed by a Game 7 in Denver.
They've been here before, needing to win back to back wins to advance. In 2019, Portland lost by 26 points in Game 5 to go down 3-2 only to come back and win the series.
The stakes have never been higher!
Historically, the winner of Game 5 in a 2-2 series wins the series 82.5% of the time (174-37).
But, the odds for the Blazers are a little better heading into Thursday night's game at Moda Center.
Courtesy of SportsRadar, the Blazers have a 56% chance of forcing a Game 7.
They are 5-point home favorites, according to PointBet.
As for winning the series, the team enters Game 6 with a 29% chance, which is 10% better than what's happened historically. Why? Well, Denver's long list of injuries likely continues to play a factor in the equation.
If the Blazers win Game 6, their chances of winning the series will balloon to 46.9%
Portland has yet to win consecutive games in the series, and to pull-off the comeback, they’ll need to do just that.
It can be difficult to envision what more the team can do after Damian Lillard’s historical 55-point Game 5 performance.
The game was in Portland’s grasp. Just a few missed shots at the rim and a crucial turnover in the second overtime sealed their fate.
Also, Jusuf Nurkic staying out of foul trouble will help the team greatly. He’s fouled out of three of the first five games.
“He needs to be careful on some of the ones he can avoid and understand what his foul situation is,” said Blazers head coach Terry Stotts.
There will be a season-high 10,000 fans in attendance for Game 6.
The Blazers will need every one of those fans' energy Thursday night.
Tip off is at 5pm on NBCSNW, the official TV network of the Trail Blazers.
