The Horizon League has announced the format for both the this season's men's and women's basketball tournaments.
Both tournaments will conclude March 8-9 at the Indiana Famers Coliseum in Indianapolis, one of the sites for this year's NCAA tournament.
For the men, the top four teams will get first-round byes, while Teams 5-12 will play at the home arena of the higher seed.
For the women, the top five teams will get first-round byes and Teams 6-11 will play at the host school sites. Detroit Mercy's women's team has suspended the rest of its season after the entire group of players accused head coach AnnMarie Gilbert of mistreatment throughout the season.
Because of the unbalanced scheduling, seeding for both fields will be done with a formula that includes conference winning percentage, strength of schedule, road wins and number of conference games played. The final seedings will be revealed Feb. 20.
The first-round games for both tournaments will be Feb. 25. The quarterfinal rounds for both will be March 2, also at host schools. The games on the school sites will be played without fans. The tournaments will re-seed teams after each round.
The tournament semifinals and finals will be in Indianapolis. It is yet to be determined if fans will be allowed at those games.
