2020 NFL Draft: Eagles close draft with Stanford linebacker in 7th round

The Eagles added Stanford outside linebacker Casey Toohill Saturday with their final pick of the draft.

Toohill was pick No. 233 overall, one of the picks acquired from the Bears earlier Saturday with picks acquired earlier in the day from the Dolphins.

Toohill is the second linebacker the Eagles selected in the draft. They took Davion Taylor from Colorado in the third round.

This is the first time they've taken two linebackers in the same draft since 2011, when they selected Casey Matthews in the fourth round, Brian Rolle in the sixth and Greg Lloyd in the seventh.

This past season, Toohill had 11 1/2 tackles for loss and eight sacks. He ranked sixth in the Pac 12 in tackles for loss and fifth in sacks.

In three years in Palo Alto, Toohill had 14 career sacks, 21 1/2 tackles for loss and 124 tackles along with an interception.

He's not considered an elite run stuffer or cover linebacker, but he's an above average pass rusher and at 6-4, 250 could be a 4-3 edge rusher if he can get stronger.

Toohill is the fourth Stanford player the Eagles have taken since 2013, following Zach Ertz in the second round in 2013, safety Ed Reynolds in the fifth round in 2014 and receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside in the second round last year.

Whether he plays linebacker or edge rusher, Toohill will have a chance to compete at a position where the Eagles need depth.

There isn't much at edge rusher behind 32-year-old Brandon Graham and inconsistent Derek Barnett. Josh Sweat is the next man up.

Nate Gerry and Duke Riley are the only outside linebackers with any NFL experience.
