For years, the weekend festivities that preceded the NBA All-Star Game was dominated by one specific event: The Slam Dunk Contest. Yet, with fewer big names participating recently and the fact that the league itself has shifted to a 3-point heavy game, the 2020 NBA 3-point Contest is another event that promises to bring a good amount of hype and competition.
The 2020 NBA 3-point Contest doesn't lack sharpshooters. The competition is headlined by All-Stars Devin Booker and Trae Young, two of the best long-range shooters the game has to offer. 2019 winner Joe Harris will also be participating as he looks to defend his title.
For a local appeal, this year's NBA 3-point Contest will feature Wizard Davis Bertans. Bertans burst on to the scene this season as someone who can catch fire at any moment in the game, and launch shots from all over the court. While Bertans is confident that he can take home the crown, he currently holds the fourth-best odds in the competition.
The 2020 NBA 3-point Contest will also feature a new twist this time around. Unlike in years past, the two-rounds will not consist of 25 shots in 60 seconds, but rather 27 shots in 70 seconds. Those two extra attempts will come from the "MTN DEW Zone", spots six feet behind the 3-point arc that give the player three points on a make. With the NBA evolving into a game where shooters let it fly from way behind the line, the new zone will help those marksmen show off their range.
