2020 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship Matchups, Placings and First-Round Leader Bets

Following the 2020 U.S. Open, most of the world’s top golfers will play sparingly between now and the Masters (Nov. 12-15).

The weakest field we’ve seen since the PGA Tour returned to play in mid-June is at Corales Golf Course in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic this week. Below, we’ll look for the best value bets in the 2020 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship betting odds and lines with tournament matchups, placings and first-round leader (FRL) picks and best bets.

2020 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship: Matchup bets

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET.

Mackenzie Hughes (-118) vs. Corey Conners

The two Canadians opened the week tied with the second-best odds to win, but Hughes had been bet down to solo second by Tuesday afternoon. Conners ranks 64th in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings to Hughes’ 77th, but Hughes was in much better form through the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

He also tied for second last year with Conners missing the cut.

Thomas Detry vs. Matthias Schwab (+100)

Detry tied for 33rd in this event last year while Schwab will be making his debut. Detry was the runner-up in two of his last four European Tour events prior to the U.S. Open, but Schwab tied for third against similar competition at the Barracuda Championship and is worth the bet as an even-money underdog in this matchup.

2020 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship: Placing bets

Top 5: Sam Burns (+500)

Burns has the fourth-best odds to win this week but still offers a 5-to-1 return for a top-5 finish. He was T-7 in a slightly stronger field at the Safeway Open and T-13 at the Wyndham Championship.

Top 10: Xinjun Zhang (+500)

Zhang tied for fifth in this event in 2018. He also tied for 14th at the Safeway Open and for 12th at the 3M Open. He can slide back into the top 10 with most of the top names from those fields removed this week.

Top European: Kristoffer Ventura (+600)

Ventura is tied with Schwab and Sepp Straka in a pool fronted by Henrik Stenson (+400) and Detry (+500). As is often seen in these weaker events, players of their status should be faded as they’re often primarily here to fulfill sponsor obligations or prepare for larger tournaments.

Ventura tied for seventh at the Safeway Open for his best PGA Tour result to date.

2020 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship: First-round leader bet

Will Zalatoris (+2500)

Zalatoris’ T-6 finish at the U.S. Open was the best result of anyone in the field this week. The Korn Ferry Tour sensation is the tournament favorite at +1200 but offers much better odds here and has a true shot to go wire-to-wire for his first PGA Tour win.

Kelly Kraft (+12500)

Kraft’s 1.75 strokes gained per round at Corales Golf Club, according to Data Golf, are the most of anyone to play this event each of the last two years. He finished third in 2018 and tied for fifth last year.
