Class of 2018 three-star Illinois defensive defensive tackle Gavin McCabe is a Hoosier.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pound defensive lineman from Chicago (Ill.) Marist High School announced his verbal pledge to the Hoosiers Tuesday night, becoming the seventh member of the 2017 class.
"I have dreamed about having this opportunity for as along as I can remember and I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to Indiana University!! GO HOOSIERS!!!!" McCabe tweeted Tuesday.
Rated by Rivals as the No. 56 defensive tackle nationally and No. 18 overall prospect in the state of Illinois in his class, McCabe joins three-star Georgia linebacker Aaron Casey, three-star Illinois offensive tackle Nick Marozas, three-star Illinois tight end Matt Bjorson, two-star Tennessee wide receiver Jacolby Hewitt, three-star Lowell (Ind.) High defensive back Jordan Jusevitch and three-star South Carolina cornerback Elijah Rodgers in IU's 2018 recruiting class. McCabe became the second commitment received by the Hoosiers on Tuesday alone and the third in two days.
McCabe ultimately chose IU over Iowa State. In addition to those two schools, he also had offers from Arkansas, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kansas, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Washington State and Western Michigan, among others.
McCabe posted 69 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 20.5 tackles for a loss and two fumble recoveries during his junior season, helping the Red Hawks to a 9-5 record in Class 8A, the highest level of Illinois high school football competition.
