16 Moments On "The Office" That I Can't Believe Were Unscripted
1.In the episode "Dinner Party," Jan makes devil horns when she sarcastically calls herself the devil for cleaning the sliding glass door of the condo. Melora Hardin (who played Jan) improvised the horns.
2.The made-up illnesses that Dwight lists off in "Health Care" were improvised. Here's the full scene:
3.Angela was never supposed to stomp on Christmas ornaments in "Christmas Party"; they were supposed to break on their own instead of just bouncing, but alas. And we really don't give Angela enough credit for being hilarious.
What a star.
4.The "Sexual Harassment" script did not include the moment where Dwight asks Toby, "Where is the clitoris?"
5.After Jim tells Pam he's in love with her in "Casino Night," she tells him how much their friendship means to her. Jim cuts her off to say, "Don't do that... Come on." John Krasinski (who played Jim) improvised this. Here's the full scene if you want to cry:
6.Creed was not originally a speaking character, but while filming the episode "Diversity Day," he ended up talking to Phyllis. Since this meant the actor playing Creed Bratton — Creed Bratton — would need to be paid for a speaking role anyway, they expanded on the character. Thank the lord we don't live in a world without Creed.
Life would be so boring.
What would we be working toward?
7.When he learns that Phyllis was flashed, Michael decides to be the worst and does a flasher impression of sorts. Steve Carell (who played Michael) improvised the whole thing. Here is in the moment:
8.After Jim comforts a devastated Dwight in the stairwell, Dwight reaches out for Jim only to find that he's gone. Rainn Wilson (who played Dwight) did this off the cuff. Here's the full, beautiful scene:
9.Dwight owning a farmhouse with nine bedrooms was improvised in "Office Olympics." This moment is also what led to the character of Dwight being a beet farmer.
