13 retire from Danville Area School District

Feb. 7—DANVILLE — The Danville Area School Board accepted the retirement of 13 individuals employed by the district Wednesday night.

The group consisted of six individuals listed as employees for the district as well as seven identified by the building they worked in: one at Danville Primary School, three at Liberty Valley Intermediate School, one at the Danville Middle School and two from Danville Area High School.

The retirements will be effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

Tina Bartholomew, teacher at Danville Primary School, thanked the group of retirees for their service within the district.

"Thank you to all those teachers," Bartholomew said. "As I look at the names on that list, I remember discussions about those teachers at my dinner table with my daughters and I know those teachers have touched so many lives within our district."

District Superintendent Molly Nied also thanked the group of retirees for their work in the district and commended them on behalf of the administrative team.

The board also accepted a donation of a pavilion at the Danville Middle School which will be funded by the Danville Business Alliance (DBA) and the Charles B. Degenstein Foundation. The estimated project value is $80,000.

The list of coaches for the upcoming spring sports season was approved. Paid and volunteer coaches for baseball, middle school field hockey, boys and girls lacrosse, middle school soccer, softball, boys tennis and track and field were approved. The list was approved in a 5-4 vote by board members.

All of the sports teams have at least one head coach approved except for field hockey, for which the board approved only a volunteer.

Salaries for the head coach positions range from $2,160 for an assistant girls lacrosse coach to $8,000 for the head baseball coach.

The total sum the district will spend on spring sports coaches is $78,245. This number includes salaries for coaches of girls lacrosse and middle school track and field as well as the teams listed above.
