Many celebrities call sunny California home, and though all that gorgeous weather can certainly be a mood booster, it also takes a toll on your skin.

They certainly know a thing or two about protecting their skin from the harsh L.A. sun, which is why sunscreen is often featured so prominently whenever celebrities reveal their best-kept beauty secrets. And it makes sense that celebrities place so much importance on the anti-aging and skin protecting benefits of SPF.

In addition to reducing your risk of developing skin cancer, wearing sunscreen daily has the added benefits of preventing the appearance of visible signs of aging, including dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles.

While breaking down her “busy mom makeup routine” in a YouTube video for Vogue, Hilary Duff shared her favourite SPF product that she applies after a full face of makeup, rather than before.

“This is an amazing product if you've taken your time to do nice makeup, and you're like, ‘Well I don't want to put sunscreen on top of that,’” she shared of the Soleil Toujours Organic Set + Protect Micro Mist SPF. “It's such an important step, especially if you live somewhere sunny.”

With parents like Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, much of Kravitz’ glowing skin is thanks to genetics. When it comes to staying safe in the sun though, the actress noted in a 2014 interview with The New York Times that she’s a fan of Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector.

Chatting with Into The Gloss about her beauty and wellness routine in 2016, the GOOP founder revealed that she believes a good sweat session is the basis for any skincare routine.

“I work out and then I wash my face in the shower, just with water,” revealed the 47-year-old. “After that, I’ll put on [moisturizer] plus a sunscreen over that—I like the Coola and Drunk Elephant ones.”

To keep her skin looking its best, the 51-year-old once told Forbes that the easiest way to stay safe from the sun is simply to avoid it entirely. When it is time to enjoy the outdoors though, she revealed that she mixes two products together for her perfect coverage.

“I use my Aveeno Daily Radiance Moisturizer, which has SPF 15—I usually mix into that the Aveeno sunscreen 30,” she explained. “I mix them together and put them on my face; psychologically, it doesn’t make me feel like I’m loading on layers and layers of cream.”
