(1) Perry vs. (5) Garrettsville football: Preview capsule for Nov. 10 game

Nov. 9—(1) Perry vs. (5) Garrettsville

What: Division V, Region 17 semifinal

When: 7 p.m., Nov. 10

Where: Maple Heights Stadium

Records: Perry 12-0, Garrettsville 12-0

Last week: Perry def. Sandy Valley, 34-7, Garrettsville def. Harrison Central, 56-35

On deck: Winner will face the winner of (2) South Range and (6) Lorain Clearview in the regional championship game on Nov. 17

For the record: A battle of the unbeatens, the Pirates bring to the table an offense than can throw the ball around with QB Walter Moses along with a strong running game spearheaded by Jayden Studio. Garrettsville, on the other hand, is a run-dominant team with its single-wing offense that grinds the opposition into the ground. ... The G-Men have a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Keegan Sell (1,266 yards, 24 TDs) and QB Eric Geddes (1,138 yards, 17 TDs). They run a lot of motion — "eye-candy" in football terms — so Perry will want/need to be sound defensively and stay in position. The Perry defense, led by linebackers Owen McKoon and Studio, as well as nose tackle Drew Smith, will need a big night. ... The G-Men gave up more than 300 yards passing last week in a 56-35 slugfest against Harrison Central. Walter Moses, the Northeast Lakes Division V offensive player of the year, is closing in on 2,000 yards passing this year, with Luke Sivon and Brayden Richards both having more than 35 catches. ... This game should come down to which defense prevails — Perry's run defense or Garrettsville's pass defense. ... Perry is the top-ranked Division V team in Ohio and the G-Men would like nothing more than to knock the Pirates from their perch.
