Yahoo! Sports' Greg Anthony on the positive effect Burke has on his teammates.
No matter how well he plays this season, it will be tough for Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor to shake his reputation as the guy who punched Jose Bautista in the face. For all we know, Odor could be the nicest guy in the world. On the field,
The one who has brought more negative attention to the United States women’s national team than every other player in its long and laureled history combined? On Wednesday, she was formally suspended from the women’s national team for six months, a year and a half after she was suspended for 30 days when her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, was arrested for driving a women’s national team van under the influence with Solo, reportedly also inebriated, in the passenger seat – an incident she failed to disclose to the federation before it was reported in the media.
Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson first complained about the NFLPA’s lack of supplement testing after his positive test triggered a 10-game suspension. Now he says he’ll sue the supplement company that he says sold him the amino acids that led to the positive test. Johnson had $25 million in guaranteed money remaining on his deal, but the positive test meant none of that money is guaranteed anymore due to a clause in his contract.
On Wednesday, Shutdown Corner’s Frank Schwab did a great job of updating the Joey Bosa situation — namely how the San Diego Chargers made this standoff public and ugly. Oh, sure, these are the Chargers we’re talking about, and calling them a well-run organization might not be able to be done with a straight face. Perhaps the Chargers, coming off a 4-12 nightmare of a season, could have found better ways to get this thing done — especially in an era where the draft-pick holdout has gone the way of the Edsel.
Geno Smith is still No. 2 for the New York Jets. After previously being vague about the situation a few days ago, coach Todd Bowles said Smith will play after starter Ryan Fitzpatrick in the preseason game against the Giants on Saturday night. "You always prepare the same way," Smith said after practice Wednesday. "It's really no different. I'm just continuing to work hard." There had been some uncertainty about the pecking order of the backups after Bryce Petty had a good performance and Smith struggled against Washington. On Sunday, Bowles wouldn't say for sure what the rotation of the quarterbacks would be this week. He did say then that he was clear about the four quarterbacks on the roster,
After Arizona lineman Zach Hemmila died earlier this month, the Texas football program reached out to the Wildcats to offer support. Wildcats tight end Josh Kern shared a photo of a handwritten letter and notes from the Longhorns. Arizona spokesman Blair Willis told the Austin American-Statesman that Texas is one of 50 football programs across the country (from high school to the NFL) to send a card to the Wildcats to offer condolences.
Warlords of Draenor, World of Warcraft’s fifth expansion pack, was met with buzz and approval of fans and critics alike when it released in November 2014. I was one of those critics, laying effusive praise (and an extremely high score to match) at the expansion’s feet in my review. It wasn’t just player and critical feedback, either. That love for the expansion showed in subscriber numbers, which crested over 10 million once more for the first time in years. But then something happened. I stopped playing three or four months after Warlords of Draenor released. And I was far from alone. In the summer of 2015, World of Warcraft’s subscriber numbers hit a nine-year low, dropping from over 10 million
During the Olympic games, Final Five member Gabby Douglas watched herself be torn apart by internet trolls who dubbed her “Crabby Gabby” for not appearing supportive enough of her teammates during the all-around team competition (Douglas reportedly wasn’t as smiley as her other teammates in the stands) or patriotic enough during the medal ceremony (Douglas did not have her hand on her heart). Now, with the games behind them, Final Five team captain Aly Raisman opened up to E! News about what she, Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez, and Madison Kocian were doing behind the scenes to help their teammate.
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim has a habit of creating headlines that are not all that flattering, to himself or to the people that he’s commenting on, which is why it wasn’t much of a surprise that a quote he gave to Mike Waters of the Syracuse Post-Standard has been making the rounds this week. The quote in question? “He’s unlikely to win an NBA title,” Boeheim said of his former star and now three-time Olympic champion Carmelo Anthony. “He’s never been on a team that even had a remote chance of winning an NBA title.” That sounds bad, doesn’t it? But … I mean, he’s right, isn’t he? Melo is 32 years old and title-less. He’s been to the conference finals once and gotten out of the first round
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. If that's the case, then Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman should be very, very flattered. These young WWE fans recently acted as the massive wrestler/MMA fighter and his advocate with the young Heyman showcasing an incredible impression that should make Paul E. proud. The video was impressive enough to get the attention of Paul Wight (better known as The Big Show), who posted it to his Facebook page. Suplex City, indeed! While the kid doing Heyman clearly nailed it, don't sleep on the Lesnar impression. It's much harder to get gestures and body language right without doing a voice, and this kid did it spot on -- crazy eyes included. I know it's hard to
The New York Mets somehow finding a way to bring back outfielder Yoenis Cespedes this past winter was one of the biggest stories of the offseason. After singlehandedly taking the Mets to the playoffs with a spectacular second half, it was assumed Cespedes’ price range on the market would exceed what the Mets were willing to pay. In order to bring back Cespedes, the Mets needed to get creative with their deal.
Kasey Kahne was blunt when talking about his struggles on Wednesday. Kahne’s contract with Hendrick Motorsports runs through 2018 and said that if he’s not competitive by the end of his deal, then it’s time to move on. Byron, who has won five races in the Camping World Truck Series this season, signed a contract with Hendrick Motorsports last week.
Two weeks after Patrick Roy abruptly resigned, the Colorado Avalanche have found their next head coach. After spending the last two seasons as a head coach in the AHL, Jared Bednar will get his shot at the NHL as he will be the one to replace Roy behind the Avalanche bench. “After profiling the type of coach I wanted for our team and going through an interview process with several good candidates, I believe that Jared Bednar is the best person to lead this team behind the bench,” said Avalanche EVP and GM Joe Sakic in a statement.

If they all came to returning than on the same flags of I can't see this team great Britain's Twitter account baggage collection could be interesting hash tag same same hash tag great to be back.
The NFL has been adding in-game technology for its coaches slowly, from speakers in quarterbacks’ and linebackers’ helmets to tablets on the sideline. It makes sense that the next step is allowing them to view video in game. Teams have been allowed to use video in one game this preseason.
It’s been a whirlwind retirement for Kobe Bryant. On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers legend rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange to unveil his new $100 million venture-capital fund. The date marks the two jersey numbers (8 and 24) Bryant wore during his 20 years with the club.
Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky proved she’s more than a one-sport star on Wednesday night at Nationals Park. Ledecky, who won four gold medals and one silver at the Rio Olympics, fired a perfect strike for the ceremonial first pitch before Washington’s game against the rival Baltimore Orioles. Removes all her medals 1st and hands them 1 at a time to Bryce Harper.
The final week of the transfer window could be a hectic one for Real Madrid, as they might sign a player, but only if either James Rodriguez or Isco leave the club. This summer has felt as if nothing has been happening inside the walls of Valdebebas,
Cristiano Ronaldo was named the Best Player in Europe by UEFA on Thursday in Monaco, following the group stage draw for the UEFA Champions League. Ronaldo said on stage that he was “living his dream” by playing football as he won the award for a second time in his career, the list title
The New York Yankees were going about their business in impressive fashion on Wednesday when an unexpected and unwelcomed visitor dropped into their dugout. Fortunately, the Yankees were in the field at the time of the incident. The Yankees dugout had mostly emptied out in the middle of the eighth inning as the Bombers took the field for the bottom of the frame.
Rory McIlroy may have a Scotty Cameron putter in the bag this week at The Barclays, but he's not making any major equipment moves yet. Following Nike's announcement that the athletic giant is getting out of the equipment game, McIlroy confirmed Wednesday that he's switched out his Nike Method Origin putter for a Scotty Cameron M1 prototype.
St. Louis Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester will replace Chicago Blackhawks blueliner Duncan Keith on Team Canada’s World Cup of Hockey roster. The Blackhawks released a statement from team physician Michael Terry saying that Keith was still rehabbing a knee injury and the tournament could make him more susceptible to an injury. “As Duncan continues offseason rehabilitation on the right knee injury that he sustained last season, we understand his decision not to participate in next month’s World Cup of Hockey.
Orioles closer Zach Britton had appeared in a major league record 43 consecutive games without allowing an earned run, spanning May 5 to August 22. That streak came to an end on Wednesday evening against the Nationals. The Orioles entered the bottom of the ninth inning holding a 10-3 lead, but reliever Parker Bridwell immediately found himself in hot water. He yielded back-to-back singles to Danny Espinosa and Clint Robinson. He was able to strike out Trea Turner, but walked Jayson Werth to load the bases. Daniel Murphy then crushed his first career grand slam to make it a 10-7 game. That prompted manager Buck Showalter to bring in Britton. Britton, too, was knocked around. He served up a single
