Politics Breaking News: Protesters Scuffle With Police Before Obama's Town Hall Meeting in Soweto

by Wochit 1:02 mins

Hundreds of South African demonstrators clashed with police outside of the Soweto campus of the University of Johannesburg before a planned appearance by President Obama. Between 150 to 200 demonstrators held signs that depicted the President as Hitler, and demanded that the United States lift trade sanctions against Cuba. Scuffles broke out between the demonstrators and police as they stood across the road from the university. Paying tribute to his personal hero, President Barack Obama met privately Saturday with Nelson Mandela's family as the world anxiously awaited news on the condition of the ailing 94-year-old anti-apartheid leader. President Barack Obama is trying to frame climate change as a make-or-break political issue, urging Americans to vote only for those who will protect the country from environmental harm.
