Donny: With a Single Remark, Hillary Clinton May Have Destroyed Donald Trump’s Campaign By Hrafnkell Haraldsson on Fri, Sep 30th, 2016 at 7:58 am Hillary Clinton's mention of Alicia Machado as Trump's victim Monday night derailed Trump's campaign by triggering a personal vendetta With a Single Remark, Hillary Clinton May Have Destroyed Donald Trump’s Campaign With a single remark at the end of Monday night’s debate, Hillary Clinton may have destroyed Donald Trump’s campaign. As CNN’s Brian Stelter tweeted this morning, “Trump just triggered a whole new news cycle about Alicia Machado.” In the wee hours of Friday morning, a seething and obsessed Donald Trump sent the following tweet about former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, who has detailed the abuse she suffered at the hands of one Donald Trump: Wow, Crooked Hillary was duped and used by my worst Miss U. Hillary floated her as an "angel" without checking her past, which is terrible! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2016 This from a man whose own personal past is nothing to brag about. The con man then accused Alicia Machado of conning Hillary Clinton: Using Alicia M in the debate as a paragon of virtue just shows that Crooked Hillary suffers from BAD JUDGEMENT! Hillary was set up by a con. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2016 Trump and his followers have done their best to destroy former Miss Universe Alicia Machado. Yet it is bizarre that as his campaign crumbles around him, Trump feels the need to lash out at a woman he victimized 20 years ago. And what was he alluding to here, about her “past”? He was talking about allegations created in the Right Wing Media that Machado was a porn star, for no reason that can be fathomed other than she is a woman who rejected the opportunity to praise Trump. In fact, Trump put out a third tweet 15 minutes after the first and made his point clear: Did Crooked Hillary help disgusting (check out sex tape and past) Alicia M become a U.S. citizen so she could use her in the debate? — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2016 Snopes has debunked the story, and says of the 2005 “sex tape” that she “made an allegedly risqué appearance on a TV reality show…which is nothing more than some grainy, night-vision footage of a couple of covered figures writhing in a bed, hardly qualifies as explicit. And reality television being what it is, the scene the tape depicts was quite possibly staged or fabricated.” And this from the guy who is married to Melania Trump, about whom there are legitimate immigration questions, and of whom there are countless risque photos, including girl-on-girl photos that ought to have Trump’s Religious Right followers boiling over with righteous fury. In fact, Trump campaign senior communications adviser, Jason Miller, told CNN’s “Reliable Sources” that those photos, which contain a riding crop, are “a celebration of the human body as art.” Alicia Machado posed for Playboy and was in a reality show while Melania nudes literally litter the internet. Apparently, for the Trump campaign, it’s only porn if somebody else does it. Why is Alicia Machado’s morality open to question, but not Donald Trump’s wife’s? It is at least in part due to Clinton’s avowed tactic of going high when her opponent goes low. And her opponent went very low. The Daily Caller, far from the world’s most reliable “news” source, ran the headline “Porn Star Campaigns For Hillary Clinton.” To show how bogus even they realize this claim is, they’ve now downgraded her porn experience to a sex tape from 2005. Nevertheless, both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity ran with the porn star claims, as did Jeffrey Lord, and it is repeated by Trump supporters across the spectrum of social media and comments sections of various news sites. Even CBS News referenced “Machado’s sex tape” as though there was really a sex tape rather than a piece of footage from a reality TV show. And this was in an article calling for American media to take an honest look at Machado’s past. It’s all a lie, but Trump’s entire campaign is a lie. Newt Gingrich, who of all Republican has no moral high ground upon which to stand, claimed to Sean Hannity yesterday that “what Hillary tried to set up and what they spent apparently months preparing, was an ambush that was as false as Benghazi…” Well, he was right in that Benghazi was false. It was no scandal. It was a hoax. And Trump’s attacks on Alicia Machado are also a hoax. The truth isn’t being merely bent here. Or even shattered. It is being atomized. The worse things become for Trump’s presidential hopes, the more vicious he becomes. Belittling Alicia Machado isn’t going to win him the election. He’d first have to prove that people care whether she was in a porn film, and to judge by his own followers, people aren’t much offended by women being photographed or filmed naked. This seems to more personal than that, a “wronged” Donald Trump lashing out at the person who refused to continue to be his silently suffering victim. She got back at Trump. At the debate, she beat him by having her name invoked. Trump doesn’t like to lose, or admit losing when he does. Hillary Clinton’s mention of Alicia Machado as Trump’s victim Monday Night derailed Trump’s campaign by triggering a personal vendetta, one that again exposes the ugliness at the heart of Donald J. Trump, and his inability to see beyond his petty obsessions to what matters to Americans.
