Bustin’ Boards Jeff Vyain wins Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon’s maiden NYC run

While part of the world was watching the X Games this past weekend, another group of skate fans were watching the Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon. The Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon took place July 30, 2011, on Governor's Island in NYC. It was the first of a four part series. Here's a recap of the races and a look at what's next.

Main Marathon results

Coming in first on Saturday's race, Men's Division, was 27 year old, Jeff "The Wiggler" Vyain from Brooklyn, New York. Vyain, who is sponsored by Bustin' Boards, is considered by many skate fans to be one of America's best long distance longboarders. His longboarding career record includes winning the 2010 Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon Hallandale Beach, Florida, stop and taking second at the Chief Ladiga - Silver Comet Stage Race. He made record time finishing the 26.2 mile course in 1:31:40.7. For his efforts he received a cool $15,000. Rolling in behind "The Wiggler" was 29 year old Canadian Paul Kent with a time of 1:32:09.5 and 34 year old Oregonian Robin McGuirk with 1:38:06.8.

In the Women's Division it was 22 year old Carmille Best from Brooklyn who claimed first place with a time of 1:59:15.6. Her time was considered to be a new world's record and she took home $3,000 and bragging rights for her efforts. Close on her heels with a time of 1:59:48.1 was 22 year old Sara Paulshock. Rounding out the top three in the Women's Division was 23 year old Priscilla Bouillon with a time of 2:04:41.7.

Mini Marathon results

In addition to the main marathon there was a mini marathon as well. The mini marathon skaters were divided up into categories based on age and gender. The youngest mini marathon winner was 6 year old Maxavatar Bloess from Flushing. Bloess was entered into the Ages 1 through 9 Division and finished out the race in 17:24.6. In the mini marathon's Ages 40 to 49 Divisions the first place winners were 46 year old Lori George from the Bronx, New York and 41 year old Scott Van Campen from Staten Island. George finished the race in 17:08.4 and Van Campen finished in 11:18.8. A list of all the day's winners and their race times are available online.

What's next?

The next stop on the Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon tour is slated to take place on August 28, 2011, in sunny San Juan, Puerto Rico. The race itself will consist of 13 laps that begin and end on Cll Canabonctito. To date there are only four skaters registered for the race. Defending champion Jeff Vyain is among them. Joining Vyain in the race will be New Yorkers Nelson Oliver and Enrique Cubillo as well as Paul Kent.
