Cody Rhodes-Ready to Move to Next Level
Cody Rhodes has the pedigree of a professional wrestling champion. His father is the WWE Hall of Famer, "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes and his brother is widely known in the business as Goldust. Even with the pedigree and talent level, Rhodes has been stuck as a mid-carder for his entire career.
When he first came into World Wrestling Entertainment, he was teamed with Hardcore Holly and won the tag team titles. To me, that was a great start to the career. Holly was one of the most respected wrestlers during his career and could teach Rhodes a lot. After a couple of months, Rhodes was paired with the debuting Ted DiBiase and won the tag team titles from himself and Holly.
Eventually, the tag team was put with Randy Orton, creating Legacy. The trio had a great run as a team, before they were disbanded, culminating with their Wrestlemania XXVI triple threat match. After getting kicked in the head by Orton at Wrestlemania, Rhodes found himself on Smackdown helping viewers become "dashing" like he is.
I thought his health tips were hilarious, but it didn't seem like anything was ever going to come of it. At least until he began a feud with Rey Mysterio. The feud with Mysterio helped establish Rhodes as a legitimate star in the company, something that wasn't in the future for him prior. The two men battled at Wrestlemania XXVII in a match that Rhodes won. The two men had one more pay per view match before ending their feud when Mysterio was "drafted" to Raw.
The evolution of Rhodes, currently involving DiBiase and brown paper bags is another added bonus to his recent push. The hope for me is he will get a chance to earn a singles title at some point. At this point in his career, I don't think he is a good enough heel to be the world champion (but then again, they did give Jack Swagger the world title), but he's been improving. He has shown that when given the chance, he can draw the jeers of the crowd and put on amazing matches.
I can see two feuds in the future that would truly be able to showcase his talent. One with newcomer Sin Cara and the other with former World Heavyweight Champion, Christian. We'll see if they happen though.
