Disc Golf This Weekend: Hero’s Huk 2012 to Be Held in Pueblo and Widefield, Colorado
This coming weekend the Hero's Huk 2012 will be held in Pueblo and Widefield, Colorado. This is a PDGA sanctioned C-tier and CDSA Thin Air Tour sanctioned tournament with professional and amateur disc golfers coming from six states in the region, including two World Champions who will compete for both CDSA and PDGA points, in addition to having a lot of fun throwing discs at two historic courses.
This is also the 20th anniversary of the Colorado Disc Sports Association, a member supported volunteer non-profit organization that supports, enhances and promotes disc sports statewide, and it also kicks off the Thin Air Tour series.
The event will begin on Saturday, March 24, with a check-in at 7 a.m. at the Pueblo City Park Disc Golf Course followed by a player's meeting at 8 a.m. Round one will tee off at 8:30 a.m., with Sunday's round three starting at the Widefield course with a recheck-in at 9 a.m. and tee off at 9:30 a.m. A final round of 9-holes will be played after an approximately one hour lunch.
Each round will consist of 21-holes, with the exception of the final nine.
The Pueblo course was established over three decades ago in 1978, and redesigned in 1999. It's set in a beautiful park with very well-manicured grass and large trees used as obstacles. For those who just want to observe and learn or bring other family members and friends, the park includes a variety of outdoor recreational activities including a playground, water park, swimming pool and even a zoo.
The Widefield course is located in Widefield, Colorado just east of Fort Carson about 40 miles north of Pueblo. It's set in a beautiful park that includes a creek that comes into play on the course. It's also a nice park to bring your family to and includes a playground as well as a variety of other fun activities.
Disc golfers and spectators will also get to enjoy the sunny weather in the region this weekend, with temperatures in the forecast expected to be in the upper 70s.
Some of the players who will be competing this weekend, include last year's champion, Mitch Sonderfan from Erie, Colorado. He went on to win several events in 2011, including the Mile High Classic and Snow Mountain Challenge. Joe Rovere of Arvada, Colorado, the recent winner of the St. Patty's Meltdown held in northern Colorado, will also compete in the open division. He was also crowned champion at the Colorado State Championships this past fall.
