Dom Barrett Cruises Past Sean Rash to Win PBA Scorpion Open: A Fan’s Take
The finals of the PBA Scorpion Open were televised on Sunday, Feb. 19, and Dom Barrett would cause Sean Rash to come up short in the finals once again. Sean Rash was the most consistent bowler of the day, but he would ultimately lose to the British born Barrett in the final match by a score of 247-204.
The loss on Sunday was the 5th time Rash has made the television finals without winning a title this season. This was one of the few title matches that Rash was able to control his emotions. It was refreshing to see him that his time and try to make the best shot possible. There were also no outburst or missed single pin spares that have plagued his previous title matches. Sean Rash consistently hit the pocket, but was no able to obtain the pin carry of Barrett. I personally like to see bowlers have to display their skill in order to win a title, and that is exactly what Dom Barrett had to do on Sunday.
This is the first time that I have ever seen Dom Barrett bowl, but I can guarantee this will not be his last win in the PBA. Barrett has one of the smoothest releases on the tour, and had PBA announcer Randy Petersen mesmerized by his talent. Barrett also proved his talent when he made a key ball change and move further left on the lane prior to the start of the championship match. Opening up the lane more allowed him to get better pin carry than he was able to obtain in the previous matches. The foreign players have proven the entire season that they can consistent compete with the best in the PBA, and Dom Barrett may be the best of all of them.
Jake has been an avid bowler since the age of 8, and regularly watches the PBA telecasts each week.
