Top 5 Surf Shops in Miami, Florida
Headed to Miami, Florida, this summer and want to know where the best places are to score a new surfboard or a pair of board shorts? There are multiple places to choose from. Here's a quick look at five surf shops that should be on your radar:
1. Island Water Sports
Island Water Sports on Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami is the place to go if you are looking for a solid assortment of surfboards, surf apparel and surf accessories. That's partially why it made my list. Some of the brands you'll find include Weber, Lost, Channel Island and Hurley. It also has convenient hours of operation. It opens from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sundays and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. the rest of the week. Another thing that helps to make this store tops is that it also carries skateboards, paddleboards and wakeboards.
2. Liquid Tube
The Liquid Tube surf shop is located on 71st Street in Miami Beach. What I like about this store is its opportune location and selection. It typically opens at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays and at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. You can generally pick up a 9' 6" Strive Longboard and carrying bag for $625. A 5' 8" Lost Surfboards Rocket will run you $595 and Ultraflex shortboards tend to hover in the $475 to $600 price range. The store also carries surf apparel.
3. Dive and Surf Center
Are you interested in saving a few bucks? The Dive and Surf Center on Washington Avenue in Miami Beach offers new and gently used surfboards at reasonable prices. Surfboard rentals, surfing lessons and dive gear are available as well. All that in one place also makes it a great shop for those toying with the idea of taking up the sport. Surfing lessons will generally cost you $80 or more per person. The store opens at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sundays.
4. Rubio Surfboards
Looking for a custom made surfboard? You may want to give Rubio Surfboards a try. You can check out some of the owner's work online. Once you have an idea of what type of surfboard you want, you should call and set up a consultation. Of course prices vary based on design.
5. BC Surf and Sport
BC Surf and Sport is located on Northwest 12th Street in Miami and offers a wide array of Firewire brand surfboards, surf accessories and apparel. It is traditionally open on Sundays from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. the rest of the week. Prices for new surfboards tend to start at $685.
