Chaotic Moon Labs Unleashes Voice Responsive Skateboard
Remember the television show Knight Rider and the talking car Kit? Well, this week the company Chaotic Moon Labs unleashed its Board of Awesomeness on the world. The Board of Awesomeness (that's really the skateboard's name) appears to be Kit's hipster nephew, who at the moment is at a loss for words. Thankfully, its creators are talking. Here are the details:
About the Skateboard
Get ready to channel your inner David Hasselhoff because you are going to need it for this one. On the surface the Board of Awesomeness resembles the Landbearshark and other funky, motorized skateboard variations we have seen but it has one distinct difference. It does what you tell it to do. That's right, its voice and gesture controlled. It won't talk back yet, but I am sure that it is only a matter of time before some genius programs it to do that as well.
In order to achieve such awesomeness, the skateboard has been outfitted with some unusual components. Among them are an Xbox Kinect controller, a Windows 8 tablet and beefy, rubber wheels that I suspect would be more at home in a mud pit with Bigfoot than at a skatepark. It runs on an 800 watt electric motor powered by batteries and I can see it being useful for skate video filming purposes. The Board of Awesomeness would undoubtedly make a wicked camera dolly, truck or stabilizer.
Where You Can See It
It is due to be revealed in full at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show scheduled to take place January 10th through the 13th in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you can't get to the show to see the Board of Awesomeness there are a few alternatives. The show will be broadcast live on Spike TV so check your local listings for details. You can also check out a short video of the skateboard in action online. At this point I wouldn't expect the Board of Awesomeness to help you fight the bad guys or get the girls, but it may be useful in delivering a frosty beverage from the fridge. Plus you never know, after a few words from Hasselhoff it might be ready to fight criminals and deliver an endless manual all on its own.
My children are skaters and I have a history of following the sport.
