Tiger Woods was injured when he lost control of his SUV outside his Florida mansion, and a local police chief said Woods' wife used a golf club to smash out the back window to help get him out.
The world's No. 1 golfer was treated and released from a hospital in good condition, his spokesman said. The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods' vehicle hit a fire hydrant and a tree in his neighbor's yard after he pulled out of his driveway at 2:25 a.m.
Windermere police chief Daniel Saylor told The Associated Press that officers found the 33-year-old PGA star lying in the street with his wife, Elin, hovering over him.
Saylor said Woods had lacerations to his upper and lower lips, and blood in his mouth; officers treated Woods for about 10 minutes until an ambulance arrived. Woods was conscious enough to speak, he said.
The accident came two days after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods had been seeing a New York night club hostess, and that they recently were together in Melbourne, where Woods competed in the Australian Masters.
The woman, Rachel Uchitel, denied having an affair with Woods when contacted by the AP.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Roberto Alomar is among 15 first-time candidates of this year's Hall of Fame ballot, joining holdovers Mark McGwire, Andre Dawson and Bert Blyleven.
Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year when Rickey Henderson was elected in his initial appearance and Jim Rice made it on his 15th and final try. Dawon fell 44 votes shy of the 75 percent needed and Blyleven was 67 short.
Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.
LONDON (AP) - Tim Montgomery says he started taking performance-enhancing drugs because he wanted to beat American sprint rival Maurice Greene and become the fastest man in the world.
The former 100-meter world-record holder, who also said he and former partner Marion Jones stored their steroids in the refrigerator "next to the vegetables," spoke to The Times newspaper from a federal prison in Alabama where he is serving time for bank fraud and drug dealing.
Montgomery never tested positive for drugs, but he was linked to the BALCO doping investigation and has admitted that he doped before the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He retired after the ban was imposed in 2005.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's Javier Arenas set the Southeastern Conference record for career punt returns and moved closer to the NCAA mark.
Arenas raced 56 yards into Auburn territory midway through the second quarter to break the mark of 1,695 yards set by Vanderbilt's Lee Nalley from 1947-49. He had an 11-yard return earlier.
Arenas came in 37 yards behind Nalley and 104 from the NCAA mark set by Texas Tech's Wes Welker in 2003.

LONDON (AP) - Nikolay Davydenko grabbed the last semifinal spot at the ATP World Tour Finals by beating Robin Soderling 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3, knocking defending champion Novak Djokovic out of the tournament.
Davydenko, Djokovic and Soderling all finished with two wins in the round-robin phase, but the third-ranked Serb was eliminated on sets. Soderling had already secured advancement and finished at the top of Group B.
Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal 7-6 (5), 6-3, handing the Spaniard his third straight loss at the tournament.
Davydenko will face top-ranked Roger Federer in Saturday's first semifinal match. Soderling will take on U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro later in the day.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Graham Gano kicked a 33-yard field goal in overtime to give the Las Vegas Locomotives a 20-17 victory over the Florida Tuskers in the inaugural UFL championship game.
