Sri Lanka beats India in tri-nations ODI final
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP)—Mahela Jayawardene struck an unbeaten 71 on Wednesday to lead Sri Lanka to a four-wicket victory over India in the final of the tri-nation one day international series.
Sri Lanka captain Kumara Sangakkara contributed 55 off 51balls and Tilakaratne Dilshan struck 49 off 54.
India’s score of 245 never looked likely to be enough, even though Suresh Raina smashed his third one-day century to rescue the team from an early collapse, as Sri Lanka’s opening bowlers Nuwan Kulasekara and Chanaka Welegedera claimed seven wickets.
India had lost five wickets for just 60 runs by the 11th over after being put into bat when Sri Lanka won the toss.
Kulasekara took 4-48 and Welegedera 3-53 to rattle India’s top order.
Suraj Randiv, Thissara Perera and Tilakaratne Dilshan claimed one wicket apiece.
Raina struck 106 before eventually being bowled by Welegedera, hitting 10 boundaries and one six in 115 balls to score his third ODI hundred.
Raina’s sixth wicket 106-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja (38) helped India to a respectable total, while Virender Sehwag added 42 off 27 deliveries.
Gautam Gambhir (0) was first to go, followed by Virat Kohli (2), Yuvraj Singh (0) and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (14).
Host Bangladesh was the third team in the series, but failed to reach the final after losing all its games.
